Leon Reyes Calderon Sr., age 90, passed away on January 2, 2017 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Leon was born on June 28, 1926 to Roberto and Rosa Calderon. He was brought to the United States from Mexico, as part of the Brazero Program in 1943. He worked on the railroad system in Hayward, California. Leon was an auto body repairman and welder. Leon enjoyed fishing, riding his bicycle and going to the flea markets. He liked spending time on the waterfront and taking in the view. He also enjoyed telling his many stories of his childhood. Leon is preceded in death by his wife Paula Sotullo Calderon, sons Ramon, Rudy and Bob; two grandsons, one granddaughter and two great grandsons.
Leon is survived by his daughters, Rosa (Sabas) Sanchez of Nebraska, Raquel Calderon, Chris Casarez (Danny), Sylvia (Roland) Calderon of Corpus Christi, Texas; his sons, Leon Calderon Jr. (Iris), Richard, Roger, Roland (Hope) and Ruben; 29 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
Raquel would like to express gratitude to Richard, Roland and Hope for their patience and help with dads care in his final year.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church.
Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
